The winners of the inaugural TRANStech Awards have been revealed at the glittering ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on Friday 1 November.
Winners of the new awards, sponsored by Karhoo, WSP, Innovate UK and CoMoUK, which recognise the use of technology to improve transport, were selected from over 130 entries and ranged from household names like Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Uber to local authorities and new technology start-ups.
Awards Director Darryl Murdoch said “We launched the TRANStech Awards to acknowledge and reward the trailblazing companies delivering innovative mobility solutions and are delighted by its success. Today we have truly celebrated breakthrough innovation, rewarded initiatives that positively impact the environment and customer experience, and recognised how the future of transport is being transformed by these inaugural awards have certainly captured the imagination of the mobility sector as witnessed by the extremely high quality of entries and the support for the ceremony itself. The TRANStech Awards are an important addition to the transport calendar and we will be back next year with an expanded awards scheme and event.”
Giles Bailey, CEO of the TravelSpirit Foundation added “Around the world, the adoption of digital technology has already transformed whole industries, with new marketplaces providing music and video on demand and new “open banking” start-ups transforming personal finance. While most famous for his acting role as Kryten in the BBC’s long-running series Red Dwarf, Robert Llewellyn was the ideal guest star for the Award ceremony, given his involvement in the 'Fully Charged' YouTube channel and authorship of the “News from” science fiction trilogy, which explores a range of possible futures for the world, that technology could enable.
