The Best Innovation in Healthy Streets Award can include technology innovations such as air quality improvement solutions e.g. green walls and infrastructure, active travel infrastructure, such as bike parking and cycle schemes. The Innovation award can also include creative ideas to make streets feel more like ‘people places’ such as local art projects, innovative seating and shade provision, slowing vehicle speeds and original ideas in engineering and street design, which are not always considered ‘technology’ based innovations.

This award is aimed at the best cycling and walking infrastructure plan that has influenced healthy streets projects in a city, town, region, borough, community or national park which has been opened, built or launched since 2014.

This award recognises marketing campaigns that engage with their target audiences, have a measurable impact, are replicable elsewhere and are great value for money. They can be single medium or multi-channel. The key question will be: does it work well?

The level of engagement and results you achieved, such as how many people you reached, follow-up contact, social media traffic and levels of behaviour change achieved

Active Travel Workplace of the Year Award
This award recognises the workplace in Great Britain and Ireland that has gone furthest to enable active travel amongst their staff, clients and the general public. This can be a large or small office, warehouse, NHS, school or university. Applicants in this category will be awarded scores based on how much support is offered to staff and visitors to be active on their travels, what incentives there are and where help and assistance is provided, including onsite facilities.
What facilities are available at the workplace – lockers, cycle parking, towels, drying room etc.
What are the levels of active travel among staff? How has this increased? How does it compare with similar local businesses?
What assistance and incentives are available – rewards, cycle to work scheme etc. What are the results? Percentage of staff cycling, reduction in car dependency etc.
What are the policies to discourage staff from driving? E.g. reduction of parking availability or increased parking costs
What has the organisation done to encourage transport authorities to provide high quality walking and cycling infrastructure for staff, visitors and deliveries? E.g. offered partnership working, lobbied for street improvements? Supported policies to reduce car parking?
What has the organisation done to reduce the amount of vehicle journeys generated by servicing the business e.g. freight consolidation, low-emission last-mile deliveries
Best Healthy Streets Local Policies Award
This award is to recognise the local authority that has implemented the most health enhancing transport and public realmpolicies. This is open to local government organisations, including Cities, county councils, districts and boroughs.

This award is for the individual who has made an outstanding personal contribution to delivering a wholistic approach to delivering street environments that are welcoming to all and which encourage walking and cycling (the two top level indicators of a Healthy Street). This can be a politician, business leader, academic, local advocate for active travel and media and sport personalities that have pushed the agenda forward.
