The 3rd Annual Public Health + Sustainable Transport Summit

Bristol

The 3rd Annual Public Health & Sustainable Transport Summit is the UK's must-attend event for practitioners responsible for improving public health through the provision of healthy, clean and active transport options.

Leading public health organisations such as Public Health England and NICE have two key areas of joint interest with transport and urban professionals: reducing inactivity and improving air quality. Planners have considerable potential to improve active travel and the health ‘viability’ of neighbourhoods.

In 2019, the Public Health & Sustainable Transport Summit will show how local authorities, practitioners and communities are making the most of significant new opportunities to shape policy that supports practical interventions to boost physical activity and improve air quality.

In 2019, the Public Health & Sustainable Transport Summit brings together central and local government decision-takers to focus on practical best practice between the public health, transport planning and urban development sectors, working together.

A key focus will be emerging new policy around better integrated and collaborative planning, coming forward in the National Planning Policy Framework, the Department for Transport’s updated appraisal guidance, the National Infrastructure Assessment and 'Prevention is better than cure', the new public health vision.

Public Health England's Chief Executive Duncan Selbie, commenting on recent interventions from
NHSC and NICE, says we are at a  'transformative moment for public health' and encourages everyone to work together for real change. 'National and local government must place prevention at the forefront of their policies.  'They must weave it into all of their plans and all of their policies, for everything from health and social care to town planning, housing and transport, he saysRead more here

This is the event where experts in the fields of public health and transport will provide practical blueprints for change:

  • air quality initiatives

  • delivering active travel infrastructure

  • behaviour change incentives for healthy, active travel choices

  • settlements that encourage activity and provide connectivity

  • promoting evidence-based approaches through knowledge and skills transfer

  • cross sector collaboration: frameworks / funding

  • maximising co-benefits through active travel planning

  • improving the health ‘viability’ of neighbourhoods

There is a now an urgent 'business need' for local authorities to deliver high quality sustainable transport measures that enable healthier lifelstyles and demonstrate cost-effective good practice.

This event is the place to learn from local authorities, specialist consultants, stakeholders and change-makers who are delivering successful public health and sustainable transport initiatives, and to pick up new ideas, inspiration and intelligence to take home and deliver in your own context.
