  • £100m is being invested to turn 3 Outer London Boroughs into ‘mini-Hollands’

  • The majority of inner London households are now CarFree, with Hackney leading with 65% CarFree households

  • Cycling and Walking in London has the potential to transform health outcome and generate nearly £2.2bn of economic benefit

  • A Better Place for All! - Cycling will transform London

In 2013 the Mayor's Vision for Cycling in London announced that London’s cycling budget would double, to almost £400m over the next three years, or roughly £18 a head, up with the best in Germany.

The successful delivery of this vision depends on London Borough officers, working with TfL and a number local stakeholders. This event is aimed at supporting successful delivery.

Delegates at the London Cycle Show will have the opportunity share best practice in design, discuss common challenges and opportunities, and network with each other to leave with a better understanding of the issues and possible solutions, with new contacts and some inspiration.

It will feature presentations from the London Borough officers who will be involved implementing schemes such as the London Grid, Quietways, and Mini-Hollands.

It will also feature international presentations from Mr. Joan Valls, the Head of Infrastructure for Barcelona, which has been a poster child for emerging cycling cities. Their bike share system has amongst the highest ridership figures in the world, while an extensive segregated cycle network has been developed over just a few years.

One of the biggest issues for many cycling projects is getting 'cross-sector' buy-in. We have invited representatives of schools, businesses, retailers, parking and the disabled to present and discuss their competing views in a 'roundtable forum' we will also have streams aimed at discussing 'engineering' solutions to issues such as junctions, mapping and segregated networks.

The London Cycling Show also includes a public promotion of cycling and include attractions such as bike try-out zone, pedal powered cinema, in Windrush Square outside the Town Hall.

The event will close with a public panel debate on the topic of: ‘Space for Cycling – Is London doing enough?’ this will be held at 1900 – 2000, and be widely promoted in local media.

  • Celebrate what works, share what doesn't.

  • Learn how cycle development makes an effective difference.

  • Leave better informed and better prepared to develop cycling in London.
