York Cycleworks and Macmillan Cancer Support
Cycling is responsible for my husband and I getting together, so I immediately have a strong fondness for it! It helped me to find a renewed self confidence when I migrated into my thirties and signed up for the London to Paris challenge ride for Macmillan. Now it is a way of life through commuting and sport, as well as a livelihood for our family. Being an ambassador fills me with pride...and excitement! I can't wait to start making a difference and watching things develop and grow.

Teacher Sport, GBR Age Group Duathlete and LIV Giant Team Rider & Ambassador
Ampleforth College
As a Giant, York Team Rider and Duathlete it is part of my Sport and job. Lucky me. Whether I pop to the shop on my bike or I am out racing, I just love the fresh air, social and competitive side to riding a bike. I represent ordinary females that ride bikes and want to be part of the driving force in developing new initiatives and encourage more girls to love it as much as I do.

Rudstone Walk is where I work, rest and play. With my husband Charlie we run a hotel and conference/wedding venue on the edge of The Yorkshire Wolds in East Yorkshire. As a wife and mother to 3 girls (7, 9 and 14) I am passionate about exercise and spending time in the great outdoors whether walking, running or cycling. As a family we are currently planning on cycling 80 miles of the Sustrans NCR 72 coast to coast at the May half term from Port Carlisle to Tynemouth.
I am passionate about getting ladies more active in general and so linked to this theme, through our business I am keen to position Rudstone Walk as a cycling destination venue for the lady cyclist market. For the business market I am looking to offering wellbeing based packages and events for their employees linked to cycling.

I am an enthusiastic cyclist of 10+ years, who loves this activity to the point of obsession. My weekends are spent riding with local cycling clubs amongst the green of the beautiful county of Yorkshire. This year I am managing some fundraising rides and also co-organising some events which will be specific to female cyclists who are beginners or who wish to take their skills to the next level.I sought to become an Ambassador so that I could share my own learning and experiences with others, helping those riders to develop and achieve their own aims as cyclists.

CycleBoost Project Manager
Heeley Development Trust, Sheffield
Cycling is an integral part of my everyday life. I ride a bike for transport, for pleasure and for health - I even take my bike on holiday! I spend my working day at CycleBoost encouraging others to jump on a bike and help people to overcome the barriers that may prevent them from cycling. Just under half of our CycleBoost participants in Sheffield are women but overall in the UK the current gender split of regular cyclists is around 80 /20. Although many of the barriers that prevent people from cycling are not unique to women, until very recently, most of the traditional support systems in place such as cycling clubs and cycle magazines are heavily biased towards men. Organisations like British cycling's Breeze are helping a lot to change that but we still have a long way to go. We need more everyday role models to aspire other women to choose to ride and I hope that by incorporating my bike into my everyday life, in a little way, I'm helping to achieve that aim.

Director
Whitaker and Mapplebeck (Cycles) Limited t/a Pennine Cycles
Cycling came into my adult life as a supporter of the sport of cyclo cross where standing in rivers and cleaning bicycles was normal. In 2000 I became joint owner of local independent bicycle retail business and manufacturer of the worldwide "Pennine" brand based in Bradford West Yorkshire. Earlier this year I was delighted to be named one of the 100 women in cycling. My passion is to ensure that everyone will enjoy riding for health wellness and fitness and have fun. Through networks I have the opportunity to spread the word of cycling and am always remembered as the "bike lady" and being an Ambassador is who I am.

Road Safety Campaigner
CTC, the national cycling charity/ Cyclists' Defence Fund
Cycling is my first choice of transport. My bike symbolises freedom, a clean environment and a health body and mind, so I use it whenever I can. I currently live in Bristol and often see parents taking their kids around town on the back of their bikes or in tagalongs. I cannot help but smile every time I see this and I want to make this a reality in more UK cities. Getting women cycling won’t just get more women on bikes; it will get whole families on bikes. I believe this is what’s needed to create a real cycling revolution in the UK.

Cycle Alert
There is a Buddhist saying that the secret to health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly. Never do I feel this expression come to life more, than when I am riding my bike. Cycling means I carry nothing with me. I am present in the moment, detached from all that is around me and yet aware in every sense, all the stress and strains are left behind and I feel truly free. Free therapy, cheap travel, it’s fun and it’s for EVERYONE! I am testament to that. I don’t wear Lycra, I don’t break a sweat to feel - and see - the health benefits. I’m so grateful to be selected as a cycling ambassador in this beautiful city of York, and I encourage all those women who have ever thought of riding a bike to stop thinking and just do it! York is a magical place, an adventure playground for all cyclists, from beginners to professionals. Start cycling now and you will have a wonderful Summer 2015 and beyond!

As a keen cyclist myself, I appreciate the difficulties experienced by cyclists using the busy UK roads today and equally cycle paths, particularly at night. Both in my business work and social life I am a keen advocate to get more people cycling day and night, actively encouraging safe cycling for everyone.
By becoming a cycling ambassador I am sure I can use my experience and knowledge to help influence key decision makers ensure safer cycling for myself, fellow cyclists, pedestrians and drivers alike.
