Intelligent Health

Intelligent Health is an innovative health company with a mission to build active communities.

Created by Dr William Bird MBE, we improve health and increase active travel via programmes which include social prescription, city-wide strategies and Beat the Street.

Our award-winning Beat the Street behaviour change programme has engaged over 950,000 participants in the past six years and is supported by independent evidence of sustained change. This include programmes in Europe, Great Britain, the USA and Canada. Thanks to National Lottery funding from Sport England Beat the Street will receive part funding for delivery in up to 59 towns (in the South West and East Midlands) to reach 655,000 participants. The first four programmes had 62,000 adults and children take part in Swindon, Torbay, Weymouth and Portland and Poole and Purbeck in Autumn 2018. 56% of adults who were inactive when they registered to take part before the game, were lifted into regular activity following the game period.**Measure: Short Active Lives Survey - N= 1576

Each programme supports local priorities: in Torbay insight was conducted into resident’s attitudes to the current active travel infrastructure and how they could be supported to continue to walk and cycle. All insight is shared with a local steering group to help support the behaviour change by residents.

Beat the Street was commissioned by Southwark Borough Council and funded by Guys and St Thomas Charity and Transport for London with the joint of helping people choose active travel and increase the number of people reaching the CMO guidelines on activity.
