W.D.M. Limited combines more than five decades of experience in road condition assessment with cutting edge technology to enable road engineers to manage their highway and road assets in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

WDM® integrated infrastructure asset management systems link road and highway condition data with accidents, structures, customer services, inventory, routine road and pavement maintenance, works orders, street works and street lighting. Applications use server-based technology to deploy modules using client and web browser interfaces.

The Company is the UK’s leading manufacturer of road survey and monitoring equipment, with the exclusive worldwide license for building the SCRIM® road survey machine to measure wet road skidding resistance. WDM® is also the UK’s largest survey contractor.

Since the mid 70’s Highway Authorities worldwide have used SCRIM® Road Survey Machines to monitor road networks to identify where the skid resistance is below satisfactory levels and help achieve and maintain reductions in road casualty rates.

More than 60 SCRIM® machines are successfully operating around the world, covering the USA, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, Portugal, Slovenia, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, China, Argentina and Chile. 

WDM® also has a base in New Zealand where it has been surveying the road network since 1995 helping deliver remarkable reductions in road casualty rates.

Since SCRIM® surveys were introduced, skid related fatalities in New Zealand have fallen by nearly 40%. The policy has also been an efficient and effective safety strategy, with a benefit/cost ratio of up to 35 to one.

As a consequence, skid resistance considerations are now a major factor in the choice of aggregate used for surfacing worldwide.
