City Car Club

City Car Club and Enterprise Rent-A-Car have joined forces to meet the fast growing demand for car sharing across the UK; City Car Club being a natural extension of the local car-rental service that Enterprise has pioneered in the UK over the last 20 years.

As Britain’s largest car club network, members have the freedom of accessing hundreds of self-service vehicles in the UK’s largest cities and towns: London, Manchester, Salford, Bristol, Glasgow, Cardiff, Brighton, Edinburgh, Birmingham to name a few. Uniquely, this is supported by the vast Enterprise Rent-a-Car branch network; bringing a more complete suite of travel options and cost savings to their members.

Significant investment in the technology that sits behind the vehicles provides corporate and public sector members with the freedom of building a bespoke travel solution to suit their staff needs and budget, which could include exclusive access to vehicles at certain times of day or the ability to make an existing fleet of owned vehicles more efficient.

Intelligent Health

Our mission is to build active communities where everybody matters.

Why? Because we understand the positive impact that physical activity has on health and happiness.

The human body is designed to be on the move. We still have the genetic makeup of a hunter-gatherer even though most of us remain seated for much of the day. This leads to damage from free radicals that are released by mitochondria in human cells when we are not moving. This causes premature aging and diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia and depression. There is no medication or diet that will prevent this damage. There is a simple cure though. Being more active!

Getting people physically active not only improves health and wellbeing, it also saves public money and improves our environment. Changing behaviour isn’t easy, but our knowledgeable, innovative approach makes it possible – and fun.

Active travel is a key part of physical activity strategy and urban plan. Our work gets people into healthy journey habits and makes walking or cycling to school, to work and to the shops a part of everyday life.

Neighbourhoods in which more people walk or cycle rather than drive, are safer, more pleasant places to live. And as people opt to travel actively, others follow their example.

Altering journey habits isn’t easy, but once people realise that active travel is possible, cheaper, better for the environment and fun, there’s no turning back.

The Intelligent Health innovative walking and cycling challenge ‘Beat the Street’ won two awards in the inaugural Smarter Travel Awards 2015 run by Landor LINKS.

Legion

Legion

Legion was created to understand how people interact with infrastructure and to simulate improved ways of making their experiences better and safer. Year after year, scientists, designers, engineers, architects and business managers have worked hard to improve, calibrate and validate tools that can help users in different areas. Users from sectors as diverse as rail, airports, maritime, events and urban helm, working in all levels of their industries, such as operators, regulators and the supply chain, find on Legion the same common ground, the focus on their final clients, being them passengers, pedestrians or fans attending to a football match.

In our early years we concentrated exclusively on research and development: collecting data from around the world to understand different characteristics. In May 2003 Legion began to license software directly to customers. Several major releases later, Legion SpaceWorks has established itself as the leading software package used by the world's most prestigious infrastructure owners and engineering consultancies.

Our software accurately simulates and analyses the step-by-step movement of pedestrians across all kinds of public facilities, such as:

  •              Rail and metro stations and bus terminals

  •              Airports and sea ports

  •              Sport, entertainment and leisure venues

  •              Commercial and public buildings

  •              Major international events (eg. Olympic games)

  •              City streets (including interaction with vehicles)

The ultimate goal of a Legion project is to optimise the flow of people and the efficient use of physical space: a goal that has a dramatic impact on costs and revenues associated public facilities as well as safety and the quality of service for clients.

DAT.Mobility

What visitors to the Smart Travel LIVE exhibition can expect to see at the DAT.Mobility stand is all about DATA driven Mobility. Since our start DAT has focused on data collection (based on exciting different types of technology like, GSM, Bluetooth, WIFI, beacons, apps and Video Content Analysis), data-fusion, interpretation and visualization as  enabler for the next generation of traffic-modeling, simulation and crowd management.

DAT recently launched Sense.dat, our own app for individual mobility Monitoring, Sampling and Change Motivation. With Sense.dat, all sorts of organizations, will be able to get a deep insight into mobility behavior and mobility choices people make, interview them on the reasons why and propose incentives to change. Sense.dat is one of the technologies used in our monitoring projects like SAIL AMSTERDAM.

Last year we executed the monitoring of SAIL AMSTERDAM. Based on several technologies we have build the first real time crowd management dashboard ever. In cooperation with Delft University and Amsterdam, we used a combination of various methods of real-time data collection and build the algorithms to model and simulate ‘slow-mode’ mobility. This has enabled Amsterdam for the first time, to see real time, what is going on with crowds at SAIL and predict potential unsafe situations in order to anticipate with measurements. DAT also offered a ‘Smart City Mobility Platform’, based on our OmniTRANS traffic model, providing information about people, cars, bikes, busses and trains entering en leaving the city and event area.

Nottingham City Council

Nottingham City Council - Building a better Nottingham

Since 2012 over £750 million has been invested to build a better Nottingham.

Significant improvements have been part funded through the UK’s first Workplace Parking Levy, generating over £25m revenue since 2011.

Such a large and compressed delivery programme has resulted in times of significant disruption to citizens, businesses and visitors with adverse impacts on how people and goods travelled. During this period of transformation, the City Council and its partners adopted a strategic transport coordinated approach to ensure Nottingham remained “Open for Business”. With the successful award of over £15.4 million through the Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) in 2011, there was a golden opportunity to fully realise the potential of the large infrastructure investment increasing economic competitiveness, creating capacity for growth, and attracting inward investment.

The Nottingham LSTF programme was designed to deliver a comprehensive package of measures to make low carbon travel options more attractive, link people to jobs, and support active travel and was delivered on time and to spend. The LSTF programme has the best scoring Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) nationally with good practice referenced in a number of national research activities, case studies and publications.

Going forward into 2016 Nottingham is encouraging a cycle revolution through a £6.1 million Cycle City Ambition infrastructure programme and as the most energy efficient city in the UK for local energy generation, with a fully electric tram network and 45 electric buses in operation; Nottingham is making serious headway in developing a resilient low carbon transport system. Nottingham, in partnership with Derby and Nottinghamshire, has recently secured funding to become one of the UK’s exemplar Go Ultra Low Cities.

The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire authorities are also working together to develop Combined Authorities proposals on strategic aspects of public transport and transport strategy which will deliver efficiencies and new ways of working across the conurbation.

QRoutes

QRoutes is a low-cost, cloud-based tool for planning transport for Special Education Needs & Disabilities, mainstream schools and social care. Its development has been sponsored by the  European Commission, under the frontierCities programme, and Kent County Council, who has trialled QRoutes with data from their existing schools transport provision.

QRoutes is based around an interactive GIS map screen which displays passengers, establishments (such as schools), optional stop locations and routes. The inbuilt automated routing engine generates optimised solutions but planners retain the power to easily adjust or create routes within QRoutes as needed.

Existing automated routing systems tend to be complicated, expensive, time-consuming to install and difficult to learn to use. QRoutes allows planners to import their existing data, visualise it and generate routes within minutes. Access is via a low cost monthly subscription.

Carplus

About Carplus, Bikeplus and Shared Transport

Carplus and Bikeplus work for accessible car sharing and bike share schemes, which are key to making modern car free lifestyles a reality.

Shared transport reduces congestion and CO2 emissions, and improves air quality and access to mobility contributing to social and economic prosperity.  We are a not-for-profit, environmental transport NGO.

Carplus

Carplus promotes car clubs and 2+ car sharing.  Car club members drive fewer miles, walk, cycle, and use public transport more. Joining a car club reduces the number of cars on the road. The car club fleet is far safer and cleaner than the national fleet – and emits over 30% less CO2 than the average vehicle.

Carplus provides technical support, best practice guidance and practical advice to local authorities and transport authorities, car club operators and community groups to assist in setting up and developing car clubs. We are also a resource centre on 2+ car sharing, bike sharing and the integration of shared mobility schemes.

Bikeplus

Bikeplus aims to optimise the benefits of cycling by supporting the widespread availability of pooled bikes. Bike share schemes support sustainable growth by providing a flexible tool that can form part of an integrated transport mix.

Bikeplus supports local authorities, employers, operators and community groups by providing evidence for the benefits of bike share schemes. We collect and share information on good practice and develop pioneering projects to ensure the social and environmental benefits are maximised and evenly spread.

Bikeplus will be launched at Smarter Travel LIVE! in March 2016.

Co-Wheels

Co-wheels is the UK’s only independently owned national car club, providing low emission, hybrid and electric cars on a pay-as-you-go basis, with cars parked in convenient locations close to where people live and work. Members can make use of car club vehicles when they need them, without any of the cost and hassle of owning a car. Car club membership also encourages people to think more about their journey, only taking the car when it’s the best option, with a shift toward active travel. This has been further enhanced by Co-wheels’ pioneering new public access electric bike hire scheme.

The Co-wheels car club model differs from other operators, with Social Enterprise status that offers distinct community and environmental benefits in the way the company is run and operated. This also means care hire and membership costs are considered on a level of sustainability rather than profit - resulting in lower rates than competitors. Co-wheels also operates innovative fleet management schemes with public sector organisations, allowing pool cars to be opened up to the public at evenings and weekends. This saves the organisation money, and results in better use of a shared mobility resource within the community.

In the past year, Co-wheels expanded to over 55 locations, from large cities and public sector fleet provision, to small market towns. In addition to attracting significant investment and pioneering new technologies, the company is now being recognised as a viable contender and large-scale provider in a growing market; winning competitive tenders for car club provision in significant cities in Scotland and England against larger multinational operators.

Green Commute Initative

DID YOU KNOW?

Around 6 people an hour die in the UK from poor air quality?

Cyclists have much lower exposure to NO2 and Diesel particulates than any other commuter?

Car drivers suffer over twice the exposure because the pollution gets trapped in their cars?

The Green Commute Initiative is about getting commuters out of their cars, out of the congestion, improving the quality of the air they and the rest of us breathe and letting them arrive at work less stressed, not sweaty, wearing normal clothes and with a huge smile on their faces.

We do this by giving commuters a hands and feet on experience of e-bikes. Then if they like it, they can pay for one monthly and save up to 42% on the retail price. They will own the bike and can use it for other things than commuting.

Employers get a substantial tax incentive to help and the really good news is they don’t need to find any cash to do so. So absolutely no affect on their cash flow!

We take care of everything. All the employer and employee need to do is tell us they’d like to do it and sign the necessary agreements.

We can supply any kind of bike including non electric and we have resellers all over the UK so as well as supporting a local bike shop, you know  service and support is nearby.

Simple, dead easy, profitable, fun. And every e-bike comes with a guaranteed smile!
