Intelligent HealthOur mission is to build active communities where everybody matters. Why? Because we understand the positive impact that physical activity has on health and happiness. The human body is designed to be on the move. We still have the genetic makeup of a hunter-gatherer even though most of us remain seated for much of the day. This leads to damage from free radicals that are released by mitochondria in human cells when we are not moving. This causes premature aging and diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia and depression. There is no medication or diet that will prevent this damage. There is a simple cure though. Being more active! Getting people physically active not only improves health and wellbeing, it also saves public money and improves our environment. Changing behaviour isn’t easy, but our knowledgeable, innovative approach makes it possible – and fun. Active travel is a key part of physical activity strategy and urban plan. Our work gets people into healthy journey habits and makes walking or cycling to school, to work and to the shops a part of everyday life. Neighbourhoods in which more people walk or cycle rather than drive, are safer, more pleasant places to live. And as people opt to travel actively, others follow their example. Altering journey habits isn’t easy, but once people realise that active travel is possible, cheaper, better for the environment and fun, there’s no turning back. The Intelligent Health innovative walking and cycling challenge ‘Beat the Street’ won two awards in the inaugural Smarter Travel Awards 2015 run by Landor LINKS. |
