SP Energy Networks Preparing for Electric Vehicles - F2/F3

Our energy system is changing dramatically; therefore it is important that SP Energy Networks responds to the opportunities that are created by the growth in demand and supply from low carbon technologies such as Electric Vehicles (EVs). 

SP Energy Networks is the Distribution Network Operator for the Merseyside, Cheshire, North Shropshire and North Wales area and we are dedicated to preparing for the wide-scale adoption of electric vehicles required to help meet Liverpool City Region’s ambitious climate change and air pollution targets.

Charging an average EV overnight is estimated to double the electricity consumption of the home. To cope with that demand, we would require around £200m-300m of investment into our electricity infrastructure for our SP Manweb licence area. 

We are committed to working in partnership with Liverpool City Region and our customers to prepare the necessary electricity infrastructure for any future increases in demand from EV charging.
