Transport for West Midlands

Transport for West Midlands, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, improves the transport structure of the region, working towards an integrated public transport system that’s safe and secure. We develop integrated ticketing with operators, provide free fares for the elderly and disabled and pay for essential socially necessary bus services.

We provide park and ride facilities and develop improvements including the West Midlands Bus Alliance and devolution of powers over local rail services. We own and develop the Midland Metro tram system and provide information to passengers in the latest electronic, real-time and mobile formats and promote sustainable travel options including cycling.

The growth the West Midlands, together with the need to reduce the impact of our growing population on the environment, mean that we need to think about different ways of living our lives and transport can play a key role in this.

Changing the way that individuals travel around will be key to the success of cities in the future. We are committed to making the West Midlands a leader in developing and delivering intelligent and sustainable mobility.

Our aim is that the West Midlands will have an effective and well-used intelligent mobility solution which supports integrated travel across all means of transport. People and businesses will be enabled and incentivised to make cost-effective, informed and sustainable travel choices using 'live' travel information and seamless payment systems, spanning multiple modes.

Alongside partners we are working to ensure that developments in technology and innovation are encouraged and harnessed effectively.
