DriveNow is the on-demand, flexible car-sharing scheme operating in North East London. A joint venture between BMW and SIXT, we already have over 20,000 members in London and are well established in 9 other European cities, with over 600,000 registered users. Flexible car-sharing allows customers to find their nearest car in a residents or pay & display parking bay, unlock it and drive it. The flexibility of DriveNow means you can drive one-way, with no need to return to a designated parking space. DriveNow currently has a fleet of 300 cars in London including 50 battery electric BMW i3s.
Both flexible and traditional (back to base) car-sharing have a role to play in transforming the streets of London for the better. Car-sharing enables members to sell their underutilised vehicles and only use a car when they really need it. The Carplus Annual Survey 2016 showed that 10 per cent of flexible car-sharing members had given up a car and 21 per cent had deferred purchase of a new car. With the removal of cars from the roads they can be repurposed for living areas and forms of active transport.
