Glasgow City Council

Glasgow introduced Scotland’s first ever Low Emission Zone in 2018.

Only vehicles which meet strict emission standards will be permitted to drive into our city centre LEZ.

Harmful nitrogen dioxide is being recorded in our city centre at levels that do not meet statutory objectives.  As the main source of this air pollutant is from road traffic, our LEZ is an essential measure to improve air quality.

To give everyone time to prepare, Glasgow’s LEZ is being phased in.  Currently, only local service buses are affected however by the end of 2022, all vehicles will fall within scope. A major publicity and engagement campaign is underway to prepare individuals and businesses for 2022.
