Ride Side-By-Side This project is to enable people over 60 and people with issues of mobility to make short trips to appointments, the shops, for exercise and leisure, or to visits to family or friends on a Side-By-Side cycle, accompanied by a trained rider. The project is jointly funded by DfT’s Innovations challenge fund, Cycling Grants London and Hackney Council. The project cycle, built by Cycloneworks Ltd is a power assisted side by side cycle where 2 people sit next to each other and pedal. In addition to the benefits of getting out and exercising and making useful journeys, there is a strong social element enjoyed by all participants. Since the project stated in may, over 150 trips have been made and over 50 individuals engaged. Some feedback from participants “I love it! This is the first time in 3 years since my disability that I've been able to go beyond the end of the street” Lynette - Participant who uses a mobility scooter. She has made 5 trips so far “That's the future!” Dial-a-Ride Driver outside one of the Hanover Housing estates “I've been feeling so much better after cycling for 2 hours each week. I can ride 12 miles in that time.” Diane (age 72) – Participant who books a session every week
