Transport for Greater Manchester

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is the local government body responsible for delivering Greater Manchester’s transport strategy and commitments. It’s our job to do everything we can to keep the region moving and help it grow.

In order to achieve our mission to “make travel easier in Greater Manchester”, we work closely with the Mayor of Greater Manchester, the city region’s ten local authorities and with partners across both the public and private sector. In addition to developing easier, smarter ways for people to travel and plan their journeys, we also play a leading role in coordinating Greater Manchester’s plans to reduce transport-related air pollution and promote and invest in walking and cycling as safe, healthy and sustainable ways to travel.

We’re working with Greater Manchester’s Cycling and Walking Commissioner Chris Boardman and Manchester’s ten local authorities to deliver an ambitious cycling and walking infrastructure plan for the entire region. Closely following the recommendations set out in the 15-step report, Made to Move - presented to the Mayor in December 2017 – we’re aiming to double and then double again cycling in Greater Manchester and make walking the natural choice for as many short trips as possible. Ultimately, we’re looking to revolutionise the way people move around, transforming Greater Manchester into a true cycling and walking region.
