Transport Initiatives

Transport Initiatives is an independent consultancy, formed in 2005. Our team of experienced transport planning and road safety professionals have a strong in-depth knowledge of sustainable transport in general, particularly cycling, walking and travel plans. We have many years’ experience of putting this into practice.

We specialise in innovative ways of developing and promoting sustainable transport options, covering every step from transport strategies to managing implementation. We have worked on many cycling and transport projects for a wide range of local authorities and government bodies such as National Parks. We have often worked in partnership with larger consultancies.

Although all our members cycle regularly, we don’t just focus on the needs of existing people who cycle. We have a strong understanding of the barriers and concerns which deter more people from cycling. This is reflected in our innovative Cycle Skills Network Audit process which assesses the highway network in terms of Bikeability levels showing the real level of cycle accessibility across an area.

TI was part of the consortium which carried out the International Cycle Infrastructure Best Practice study for TfL, which underpinned the 2014 London Cycle Design Standards. Our work on cycle network analysis for LB Southwark was the first large scale application of the process set out in LCDS and helped the council win the “Cycling Strategy of the Year” award in 2015.
