BikeplusBikeplus is the UK representative body for bike sharing which aims to optimise the benefits of cycling by supporting the emergence of a widespread network of pooled bikes. Bikeplus shares information and good practice, delivers pioneering projects and supports the development of the sector. Bikeplus produces national data on bike share schemes, surveying the size of the fleet, the number of members and journeys made. In addition to research, we analyse the role of bike share in public transport and public health as well as social trends connected with bike share. Public bike share in the UK covers 17 towns and cities, with over 17,500 bikes, 1,164 docking stations and nearly 420,000 users (March 2017). Over 10 million trips annually are made by bike share. Together, Bikeplus and Carplus promote accessible shared transport including car clubs, shared bikes and 2+ car sharing. We work to change the way people travel to reduce the environmental impact of transport and improve access to transport for all. We support and encourage measures that promote car clubs, car sharing, bike sharing and other shared mobility schemes which complement public transport, cycling and walking to provide affordable and flexible travel |
